Witnessing our kids love for God

This evening I heard Morgan and Aaron arguing back and forth from the kitchen, "I had Joseph first!" "No I had Joseph first!" I walked over to the table and announced my famous "STOP" and Aaron's head rested in his hand and Morgan sobbed quietly next to him. After about two minutes both kids were showing signs of calm so I asked Aaron first who is Joseph? He starts by saying, "he is in the house," and I cut him off and reminded him the question was "Who is Joseph, not where." and he replies with, "oh he is the high priest and his diciples are over here."

I have to admit I was a little stunned, I had not expected that exactly but okay this is good. So I look at Morgan and I asked her when she was playing with Joseph, then the same question to Aaron. I then asked Morgan what she was doing with Joseph (the object here is to make the kids calmly think about the events leading up to "I had him first.") Morgan says, "I was getting the 12 disciples over to the temple so they could see Jesus." I asked Aaron what he was doing and he says, "I had Joseph coming over to this place where he meets with God and nobody else can go except the high priest and then Aaron and Mathew came to get him."

Morgan follows up with "What about Jonah?" and then Aaron says, "right I mean Jonah. That's it mom I think Morgan is getting Jonah mixed up with Joseph." The kids continued this calm exchange until we all laughed because it became obvious that it was Aaron who was mixing up Jonah with Joseph and they went about adding more participants. I heard them at the table naming their pieces; John the baptist, John the apostle, Daniel, Peter and so on as they continue to name the logs that are standing in as people.

I was proud to see my children truly acting out the old testament traditions! They were calling out names (and using the Bible to find more!!! That is really great) Grin They had the temple set up and the most Holy place where only the high priest could enter. What a great joy it is to see a love for God in them. To witness them playing so actively shows their genuine interest and enthusiasm for God's truth and the significant people from the Bible. I won't say this is the first time they have acted out these Bible stories. I am sure it isn't based on how well they had everything set up and planned out, but it is the first time I actually witnessed this and found great encouragement of God's work in our family.
