Who Should Be In Charge of their Raising Children?

I received a letter in my email from attorney Michael Farris from HSLDA that raises concern for myself and should for all parents in the united states. He states in his first two paragraphs:

"Dear Friend of Parental Rights,

I was in the United States Senate this past week meeting with lawyers for a Senate office. They told me directly what I have been hearing indirectly on a regular basis ever since the election.

Those who want to change family policy in America to comply with international law are preparing a full-scale effort to seek ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child during this next Congress. Barbara Boxer recently told a planning group that they intend to use children’s health care as leverage to seek ratification of this UN children’s rights treaty."

For some this may be the first time of hearing about the UN Children's rights treaty, others may know of it but haven't taken the time to really investigate it, and still others may be fully educated and know the implications this poses on our rights to raise our children based on OUR values.

I have written a recent post summing up a couple examples that, quite frankly scare me the most on my blog title, "Parents Know Best, Don't They?" and I encourage you to read it as a place to start. Next take a few minutes to review the information at ParentalRights.org, more specifically start with 20 Things You Need to Know and then explore their blog. Get familiar with this threat and then bring your thoughts back here. I want to know what you think and how you feel.

Have you guys seen the latest on this? Rice is talking with kids at schools informing them of the upcoming CRC. Does our government really think giving kids power OVER their parents is going to do any good?

Think about it, kids learn to respect authority first in the home right? If they decide they don't like what the parents say they can fight them in court and win! No need for them to respect authority because the UNCRC says they don't have too.

I pray this treaty is not ratified. We will hit hard if it is and I for one would be ashamed to be an American citizen, the land of follow the leader!

I looked through some of this and I am definitely concerned! First I wasn't aware that there was a threat for the "rights of the child" I am sort of out of the political loop! but after reading your post and the parental rights website I definitely want to do something.

Being a parent and raising my children is something I have always wanted in my life. I certainly don't want someone coming in and telling me that my children are in charge of their own lives and the state will see to it that I comply! At what point did parents lose their ground in knowing how to raise their own children? Huh?

Bleak outlook, Makes me angry

It's scary seeing our rights being chipped away...It makes me so angry to think that someone is going to tell me how I have to raise my child. It's enough to make me see red. I'm definitely worried about the direction that our leaders would like to take this country. Anytime you take away an individual's rights you erode freedom. This is exactly why our founding fathers risked all they had to set up a government that respected the rights of the individual. Those of us who are concerned parents, and concerned Americans (because frankly, the erosion of personal rights and freedom won't stop with our children) need to speak up and make our voices heard.
