Sorry ladies and gentlemen for the delay in running a new poll, last week was WOW!

What do we do to get organized? I have started setting aside a time every Sunday to set my goals for the week, including daily goals. These include my typical house work, kids daily school, work on site, freelance and so on. It is working great for me and keeping me on task.

As for the organization of space....I have a favorite corner in the dining room for large bulk, a favorite counter for bills and a favorite box for work stuff Shocked

In fact the only filing I do is for my kids school (have to make sure their portfolios are intact and proper for college entry) Wink so I guess I am great at organizing my time and not so great at organizing my space Grin

How about you?

That's too funny!! I might have to try that

Elsie,
We use Glad Forceflex.

Your mess fits in one bag???

Ha ha JaMae. That is so funny.

When we have last minute visitors, the mess bag is usually stuffed in our trunk! LOL

Yeah, organization isn't exactly my strong point. I know where everything is, but no one else could find anything. Okay I should confess, I know the general vicinity of where everything is

I agree with Debra that everything has its place, I just can't seem to find it! I visit other people and their homes look so kept and filed, and I find myself wondering what closet they stuffed it in. hehehe

OK first of all let's make a distinction between organized and tidy because I am one and not the other Grin.

I am a firm believer that if everything has its place, then you avoid mess. Yet, no such luck so far. I give EVERYTHING a place and it still ends up on the table/counter. I think I am an obsessive organizer but I am not tidy enough to keep things organized. Once a week, when I clean, things look great. But within days, there are piles of clothes and papers all over the place.

My kitchen, fridge, drawers, cupboards, bathroom closets, and shelves are organized to the max. It's scary...by shape, size, color, etc...

My closet is another story. When its clean, it is organized by style, color and length (hangers are color coordinated too). But after one good night of trying on 10 outfits while getting dressed in a hurry, my closet is more like a pile of clothes on the floor with empty hangers on the racks.

My computer work area got so bad with the piles (I'm right there with you, Elsie), that I had to buy a computer armoire so I could hide it out of sight while I was not working or entertaining guests.

This is a hilarious thread. My sister once told me that the smarter you are the less organized you are. She was probably trying to make me feel better but, I believe her.

I think I'm a serial organizer!

I'll get on a kick where everything is going to be neat, everything in its place, labels, files, etc., etc. Then that passes.

Then I'm going to really organize one particular closet at a time. I get the first two down and somehow forget all about the rest of the house.

Then I'm going to actually file all those hundreds of photos I have. I'll sort through a couple stacks, but there's tons more. They're still sitting in the box.

Let's just say I have the best organizational intentions!

I think this may be a worse time than most to ask me about my organization. I've been so tired the past few weeks that I sometimes feel as though I'm barely hanging on by a thread Wink. My organization skills have never been very good at home, although when it came to school or work, I was much more organized, proving that when I want to be organized, I can. However, if I'm not forced to be organized I don't tend to do a good job with it. I do generally make lists for the grocery (more out of necessity than organization--if I don't have a list, I walk out with more impulse buys than necessities).

My kitchen is not as organized as most--mainly because I let my 3 year old help with putting things away, and while he gets the right cupboards, he doesn't always stack things neatly. My hubby is the one who does most of our organizing. He'll go through cupboards and re-stack things when it gets so messy that pots and pans are tumbling onto the floor when we open the door. When I worked, my desk was always cluttered, but I knew what was in each pile, and that's still how I function. Hubby, on the other hand, tucks things out of sight forcing me to call him when I go looking for one of my piles Grin. It works though. You would think we'd get frustrated with each other, but so far we each respect the other's style.
