Surviving the Birthday

So, I survived my son's first birthday. Hooray!

It was actually a lot of fun. He was happy fo rthe most part and our guests had a great time. I do not even want to add up all the receipts Undecided but its all behind us now.

I just wanted to share with everyone that for his birthday our gift to Joakim was to make him a Big Brother!!! I go to the DR tomorrow to find out how far along I am. We started trying at the end of October so I can't be too far along.

Funny story: For weeks we hoped to get pregnant before Joakim's party so that we could make the announcement in front of all our friends and family at the birthday party.

We decided that his last gift would be a book titled "I am a Big Brother" and a t-shirt that read Only Child BIG BROTHER. The idea was that when he opened it people would know I was pregnant and we would all scream and laugh.

So he opens the gift and all 50 of our guests just stand in silence with puzzled looks Huh?. "Why did you get him that?" Eventually someone exclaimed OH! She's Pregnant! Then slowly it trickled down and everyone else got it. It was terrible. Not the way we had hoped Smiley

Debra congratulations!! It sure is exciting when you are expecting. That was a neat way to tell the family about the new baby. By now you have already been to the doctor so I hope the visit went well. Happy 1st birthday to Joa

Debra, Congratulations! That's such wonderful news. And I think your idea was adorable even if some of the family didn't "get it" right away.

I bought the book "I Am a Big Brother" for Aidan when we were expecting with Eli. It's a great book and perfect for really young children.

Good luck at your appointments!

Cheryl

Thanks. My nurse visit is tomorrow and my first DR visit is next week. Will definitely keep all posted. We are thrilled.

WOW!!! A big congrats to you and your family.  I am sure that even though the 50 guests were a bit slow to "catch" on it was still an awesome surprise.

What a wonderful way to share the news for his b-day.  I absolutely loved the t-shirt idea, now he can show his pride in being a big brother.

Be sure and let us know how far along.  I think since I can not have any more children I will live vicariously through you and Elsie  Grin (just kidding) but be sure to keep us all posted.  I think we will start a pregnancy board for you two ladies (and any other moms that happen along) so you can chat back and forth.

How exciting it is when a family can grow!
