How Do You Stop the Morning sickness?

I have not dealt with much morning sickness in previous pregnancies. With Aiden's pregnancy I did have a lot of miserable nausea, but it only happened when I didn't eat often enough, so I quickly learned to eat cheese sticks and yogurt ever few hours to give my body some protein.
Chase's pregnancy was a dream...and the miscarriage that I had after Aiden was a blighted ovum--I never had a single symptoms with that one either...
So here I am with nausea hitting at random hours. I woke up in the middle of the night sure that I was going to re-visit dinner, but it passed...Sometimes it's bad before I eat, sometimes it's bad after...I can't figure it out, or how to make things better. Does anyone have anything that worked well when they were pregnant? I keep panicking when I realize that I'm only 6 weeks pregnant and I'm already feeling so ill...I've got 6 weeks to go before I feel better Shocked.
I'm not complaining...goodness knows I'm thrilled to be pregnant. I just figure that you ladies all have experience having kids and you'll probably have some tricks that helped you.

During the beginning of my first pregnancy I was still working and Eric would, in fact, get up and bring me breakfast in bed so that I could wake up happy. Then, he packed my lunch and ironed my clothes while I got ready for work.
No such luck this time. I get no kind of pity since I get to stay in bed well past the time he leaves for his own job. The other night I was craving grilled steak and he suggested we go to Taco Bell for their new steak burrito. Oh how things have changed!
All kidding aside, my husband is great. He caters to me and Joa from the minute he gets home from work until he leaves in the morning. I'm a lucky girl.
Debra - perhaps you can convince your husband to have food sitting on your night stand, almost like waking without hunger!

Debra-I'm so glad you've found something that helps! It's miserable being sick.
Yes it is. Thanks for asking. I have been waking up feeling no nausea.
Now if it would only work for hunger... lol
Taking my pre-natal at night always seemed to reduce my morning sickness. We were sure that it was the vitamin causing it and taking it a bedtime removed the source, removing my sickness.
Is it still working for you Debra? Just curious.
Thanks for all your great advice. I am so thankful to be part of this forum and benefit from the knowledge of experienced moms. You guys are truly appreciated.
Mikki, your explanation really makes sense. I will try it again tonight and see what happens.

I never related the two, because I never had real morning sickness at all. But I did take my vitamins at night just because if I didn't, I was tasting them all day long--I'm sure you guys know what I mean--and I couldn't stand that. I found taking them at night made a world of difference.
And don't even question why it's working---as long as it's working!
Debra - good to hear it helped you. Taking the vitamin at bedtime serves two purposes,
1. Your stomach can more readily digest it without distraction (often pre-natals lead to the nausea)
2. During your sleep your body is experience a fast, no food and no water, while you growing baby is still eating. The vitamin at bedtime provides the supplement for what you lack while not eating, reducing morning sickness as a result of food deprivation!
It doesn't work for everyone, it honestly depends on what triggers the nausea but the two most common causes in women is not enough healthy food or trouble digesting things. I am so glad you shared this post. I had to use special vitamins when I was pregnant because my iron levels were too high for pre-natals, so I didn't think about this before.
Excellent advice and I hope it continues to help you.

I know this is kind of an old thread but I have a new one!
Before I was pregnant I overheard someone tell one of my pregnant friends to take her pre-natal vitamin before bedtime. I dismissed it as a wives tale becase it didn't make sense to me to load up on the goods before bed. I figured I needed my energy for the daytime; not to sleep.
Well, my nausea has been so bad that I was willing to try anything. So I took my viatmin last night before bed and I woke up feeling GREAT! No nausea at all. No headache. I was still starving, though.
It may be premature cause its my first day and Eric prayed over me last night before bed, so it could just be one day but I'll try it again tonight and see.
Just wanted to share the good news.

Mine has been so strange. I have days where I'm fine and days where nothing works. Today was a bad day. I'll be nine weeks tomorrow, and we've officially seen a heartbeat! It makes the sickness worth it!
Hi Elsie,
I did the seabands, white milk and crackers to soothe my nausea. I guess everyone is different. Many of my friends could vomit at the thought of milk, but I lived on it during my pregnancy. I also ate lots of fruits and salad.
Debra
Sounds like I need to stock up on ginger ale and fruits. I was feeling fairly good yesterday, and was even able to get some work done...I do feel pretty lucky so far--I doubt this will last nine months. My mom had morning sickness for the full 9 months with me...She even lost her job because she was so sick all of the time (she was a nurse and they didn't have the laws back then that they have now to protect pregnant women). Thanks for the advice!
Okay, I hadn't even seen this thread when I posted another note under the DVD in the car topic.
Have you tried using Seabands? I won't repeat my post here, but I have heard they work really well for many types of nausea, including car sickness and morning sickness.
I've also heard ginger is supposed to help settle a stomach--that's why our moms always gave us ginger ale when we were sick.
I do hope you're feeling better soon. It's got to be so tough to be feeling like this and have a little one to take care of at home!
I was actually one of the lucky ones who never had a day of morning sickness with either pregnancy. A little queasiness here or there, but nothing bad at all. After seeing what many of my friends went through, I truly appreciate how lucky I was!

Morning sickness
With Jessica's pregnancy it was the worst and I was sick constantly the whole pregnancy. The thought of food made me sick. It was extremely difficult to keep food down, anything at all. The typical remedies of crackers and small meals was a lost cause, I only got sick on them. I only gained 18 pounds, that's honestly how bad it was. Nothing made the sickness go away (the whole pregnancy). I did find some things that helped minimize nausea and reduce vomiting. Here is what worked for me:
Water only, every other drink made the nausea very strong. I'm talking head to the bathroom strong cause you're sure it will come up.
Light foods, I had to remove anything that was heavy, like potatoes, pankcakes, rice and the like. bread was okay if it was one slice and never in the evening. It seemed that the longer things took to digest the more likely I was to throw them up, this included the normal metabolism slow down in the evening.
Never eat before bed, hunger was better than vomiting (and safer)
more fruits than anything else. this even helped with my nausea, especially kiwi (don't know why)
The good news, my extreme morning sickness was just that, extreme. However I shared these same tips with my sister, she just had her baby and was having some rather strong morning sickness the first couple months with some nausea and the like. She stuck to "mostly" water, and plain black coffee, reduced the amounts of heavy foods and limited them to her most active times of days, made fruits her primary snack and the nausea really backed off. She had minimal bouts here and there until about 3 months and then she was back to her old eating habits. So this may be helpful.
Good luck and try not to count, it makes unpleasant things take so much longer!
